Child Advocate Honored by Indiana Commission for Women

On January 23, 2007, at a celebration at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN, attended by approximately 500 community, governmental and business leaders from throughout the state, Lori McIntire, of Evansville, was honored by the Indiana Commission for Women as a Finalist for their prestigious Torchbearer Awards. This award is the highest award presented only to women by the State of Indiana .

The Indiana General Assembly established the Indiana Commission for Women in 1996, and the Commission created the Torchbearer Awards three years ago to honor and recognize the accomplishments of noteworthy Hoosier women, who have overcome or removed barriers to equality or whose achievements have contributed to making our state a better place in which to live, work and raise a family.

Ms. McIntire, Lincoln Hills Development Corporation (LHDC) Family Preservation/Child Welfare Services Program Director since 1998, was honored for her efforts to ensure that all children are entitled to a childhood free from abuse and neglect. Under her leadership, the programs that she oversees for LHDC have served over 2,000 families since 1998, providing critical services to at-risk children and families, with the goals of maintaining family units intact, and interrupting the generational cycles of abuse and neglect. Her efforts have proven highly successful, and LHDC currently provides various services to the Departments of Child Services throughout a 12-county area in southern Indiana .

Ms. McIntire, who has been employed by LHDC since 1992, earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern Indiana in 2001.
