LHDC Rededicates Apartments

Approximately 50 persons turned out Wednesday, August 8, 2007 , for rededication and open house activities conducted at the LHDC Housing for the Elderly Apartments, located at 824 Washington Street , Tell City .

This 24-unit apartment development, owned and managed by Lincoln Hills Development Corporation (LHDC), was opened in 1981 and constructed through a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 202 loan. The rededication ceremony and open house showcased the recently completed, extensive rehabilitation and modernization work that was completed on the apartments, made possible by a $425,000.00 HUD HOME grant through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA). IHCDA Executive Director, Sherry Seiwert, and other members of her staff, were special guests at the day’s events.

LHDC Executive Director, Larry K. Kleeman, reminisced about the groundbreaking and construction of the project, some 26 years ago. “If not for a very dedicated and committed board of directors at the time these apartments were envisioned,” Kleeman said, “this project would never have been possible. These apartments have been home for hundreds of persons over the last 25 years, and we are glad that we could make these improvements for the residents.” He added, “We’re also extremely grateful for the funding from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority that allowed us to complete this rehabilitation and modernization project.”

Sherry Seiwert remarked, "Today's rededication is a shining example of LHDC's hard work and commitment to providing affordable housing for all segments of their community's housing needs, including seniors, and we are pleased to be here to share in the celebration."

Many of the apartment residents were also present, and attested to the improvements in their apartments. One of the apartment units was opened for tours to enable the public to see the improvements firsthand.
