LHDC Receives Sustainable Energy Funds

One hundred three high-performing local weatherization providers across the country, including Lincoln Hills Development Corporation (LHDC), Tell City , IN , were recently selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to receive Sustainable Energy Resources for Consumers grants.

This new program was made possible through the American Recovery and Reinvestment (Stimulus) Act (ARRA) of 2009, and LHDC was awarded funding in the amount of $200,000.00 to supplement LHDC’s ARRA Weatherization program.  The funding will come through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and will allow LHDC to perform innovative energy efficiency improvements on homes the agency weatherizes, including installing high-performance windows, heat pumps, solar hot water systems, tankless hot water heaters, and other sustainable energy measures.

LHDC Executive Director, Larry K. Kleeman, said, “Not only do these funds allow for the implementation of these innovative sustainable energy improvements, they also provide work for local contractors and help to retain and create job opportunities, as a part of the federal stimulus funding initiative.  We’re excited that our quality work in the residential weatherization arena is recognized by the Department of Energy, and are appreciative of our partnership with DOE and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority in making this funding possible.”

LHDC expects to work on sixteen (16) homes in the Crawford, Perry and Spencer County area, investing an average of $12,000.00 per home.
