Lincoln Hills Development Corporation (LHDC) has established a disaster relief fund in response to the devastating tornado that tore through the town of Marengo ( Crawford County ), Indiana on May 30 th . LHDC kicked off the disaster fund with a $1,000.00 donation, with the fund to be utilized for supplies such as water, food, diapers, cleaning supplies and other items specified by the local Red Cross.
The tornado displaced nearly 100 persons who lived in the LHDC Marengo Housing for the Elderly apartments, and Village Apartments of Marengo. Both of these affordable rental apartment properties were developed, and are owned and managed, by LHDC. While luckily there were no injuries or loss of life to the tenants of these apartment developments, both apartment complexes received extensive damages. LHDC officials, and their insurance agents, are assessing the damages and getting estimates for the repairs/reconstruction of the apartments.
LHDC Executive Director, Larry K. Kleeman, said “We have mobilized our staff in an all-out effort to meet the needs of our housing tenants who have lost their homes, and also to assist with the needs of the larger community as well. This is truly a natural disaster of terrific proportions, and we are devoting tremendous resources toward alleviating the effects of the tornado. We plan to have both apartment developments repaired or rebuilt, and be back in business, as soon as possible. The need for affordable rental housing in Marengo is even greater now that this disaster has occurred.” Kleeman further stated, “We have established a disaster relief fund in order to help meet the needs of the victims of the tornado. Donations are needed and certainly welcome, and 100% of the donations to this fund will be utilized to purchase supplies, food, water, and other necessary items for the tornado victims.”
Kleeman stated that contributions made to the disaster fund may be tax-deductible because LHDC is a 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions may be sent to LHDC Disaster Relief, P.O.
