Frequently Asked Questions

Are we still serving families and individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Yes! We are still assisting families and individuals in a safe manner. While face-to-face appointments are currently on hold, you can visit one of our teller window locations, call us at 1-800-467-1435 or email us, and we will assist you.

How do I drop off paperwork or an application for services?

Many LHDC locations have a dropbox that can be utilized to transfer paperwork afterhours and teller windows can be used during normal business hours at the three main locations.  Also, you can call to make arrangements to transfer paperwork as needed by calling 1-800-467-1435.

Community services (eap, Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8), Weatherization)

Do I need to re-apply for the Energy Assistance Program (EAP) every year?

Yes. We typically send the new applications in early September to all the applicants from the prior year. You can only apply once during each program year.

I got an approval letter for EAP. Why hasn’t there been a credit show up on my account statement?

Though we may have approved your application, it can take up to 120 days for the credit to appear on a statement that you receive.

I’m on the waiting list for a Housing Choice Voucher, also known as a Section 8 Voucher. How long before I can get assistance?

It depends on how quickly others come off of the program. Spots are re-filled as they become vacant when someone moves to another territory, become income ineligible, or leaves the program for any other reason.

I need some repairs done on my home. What does the Weatherization program provide?

Weatherization primarily focuses on energy efficiency enhancements such as insulation, air sealing, vapor barriers, and energy efficient lighting. It is not typically a general home repair or emergency repair program. In most circumstances, regulations do not allow us to replace windows and doors. There is usually a waiting list for Weatherization assistance.
